Now you need to learn to do this when you are awake. Here is a cornerstone truth: your brain does not need a reason to be happy; it needs only your mind’s permission to do so! Every day a smile, a compliment, or a hug has the power to release waves of comforting dopamine, oxytocin and serotonin, but we say “Now is not the time!” And go on punishing ourselves, believing that somehow, being stressed out will give us an advantage in figuring out our problems. This is a lie hardwired into the brain!
